A Set of German Art Nouveau Fish Knives and Forks (1890 - 1910)
A rare and beautiful set of fish knives and forks for six. They are silver plated and decorated in a beautiful Art Nouveau pattern. Made by renowned German tableware manufacturer WMF.
WMF is the abbreviation for Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, which in English means Wurtemberg Metalware Factory. The box is black leather and lined with light blue fabric.
Each knife and fork is marked "WMFN I/O". WMFN is an older mark used between about 1886 and 1903, and I/O indicates the normal thickness of silver over the base metal (usually brass).
AGE: Art Nouveau (1890 - 1910)
24.5 cm x 38 cm (box)
Good - The box is worn on the edges which is expected, and is in very good antique condition still closing properly. The fabric on the inside is only very lightly stained by the metal and is in good condition. Each knife and fork is in good to very good condition, they are not bent or warped, and have only light scratches visible on close inspection. Only a few show minor wear to the silver plate where the base metal is coming through.
