A Japanese red earthenware teapot with sage green slip glaze, hand-painted with flowers, ornaments and depiction of Hotei. Lilac blue handle and spout.
A wide variety of colourful earthenware pottery was produced in the Kyoto area. This piece was made for the domestic market, not for export.
AGE: 19th century (1800s)
Excellent: No major damage. The glaze is chipped slightly at the end of the spout, and in three small areas along the top rim (approximately 2mm - 4mm wide each). There is glaze crazing on all sides due to age.
